About the Lecture:

About the Lecturer:
Ms. HASHIMOTO Naoko graduated from Sacred Heart University in Tokyo and finished her graduate studies on Forced Migration from the University of Oxford in 2000. She subsequently worked as Advisor on Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs for the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations in New York (2001-2003), mainly responsible for women, children and refugee issues. She moved to the Counter-Trafficking Unit of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. IOM is the United Nation’s office responsible for migration issues throughout the world.
She then transferred to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Northern Sri Lanka, engaging in front-line emergency humanitarian operations for internationally displaced persons and returnees. Since 2007, she was back to the IOM, as the Program Manager for its Tokyo Mission, providing protection and assistance for vulnerable migrants including victims of human trafficking in Japan, creating new ‘humanitarian migration’ schemes to Japan such as refugee resettlement and other vulnerable individuals, and providing policy advice on Japanese migration policy and strategies. She also serves as member of the Detention Facilities Monitoring Committee (West Japan) of the Ministry of Justice.
